It's similar to personalizing your lifestyle (i.e. Clothing, Interiors, Face?), but it's on your Windows Desktop! Turns out you can change many of the visual aspects of your digital life!
It's a little something we made to make Windows customization easier. ScreenStyler has an intuitive UI and combines several apps and resources for fast, awesome results.
Built using modern web tech, it works by creating "Styles" that apps such as Rainmeter, RocketDock and Steam can use. We made it into an expandable framework, so that Styles can be created visually instead of having to manually edit code and copy files.
You tell us! This tool was made by some nerds who have been styling for 15 years (and who suffered in the beginning, to understand everything). So that you don't have to. Plug and play baby!
ScreenStyler mainly provides Styles for already free applications, so we'd like to keep it that way! The project will be eventually donation supported.
Absolutely not! We made it a point to only provide Styling for safe apps and avoid any system modifications. Feel free to explore our docs to see what kind of access this tool has.
Not all apps are easily Style-able, so we need to be able to copy files into their respective paths (Such as C:\Program Files\RocketDock, etc), otherwise it wouldn't work. We've made sure it's super secure and only used when really needed.
Currently we developed a very extensive Wallpaper section, Widget Section (Rainmeter), Dock & Icons (RocketDock) and Steam. We think it's more than plenty to get started with Styling! Later on we will expand that.
No, once you've applied the Style, you can close ScreenStyler (or even delete it, but why?)
As it often does with new apps... Just press "More Info" and "Run Anyway" to install it. Don't worry about the warning as it's a false alarm. This app is safe and secure.
We hate bloat. Coming from someone who checks task manager and gets angry over unnecessary "apps" and "services", we've ensured that ScreenStyler does not slow anything down. Try the Performance Checker too!
Yes, just uninstall from the Control panel. If you don't want any Widgets on your Desktop, you'll need to uninstall Rainmeter also.
Currently ScreenStyler is available for Windows 10 64-bit and iOS 14 (iPhone). We are already working on a macOS and iPad versions.
Yes, brilliant! ScreenStyler lets you dive into this fun stuff easily without knowing a lot about customization.
ScreenStyler lets you save time by creating (or prototyping) layouts, that you can even use as a basis for your own original skins! Feel free to use our webapp if you don't want to install it.
Rainmeter allows you to display customizable skins on your desktop, from hardware usage meters to fully functional audio visualizers. ScreenStyler taps into some of the potential of Rainmeter, but of course Rainmeter can also do much more.
RocketDock is an application launcher developed by Punk Labs for Windows that provides a dock similar to that of the Mac OS X Aqua GUI. ScreenStyler lets you create customized layouts and skins for it.
With macOS Mojave, Apple has introduced time-shifting wallpapers that match the hour of the day wherever you are. Microsoft hasn't. So we added this to ScreenStyler ^^
Layered Wallpapers are split into two layers that allow you to create potentially very cool and unusual designs, for example, with a music visualizer behind the mountains in the distance.
We take that VERY seriously. In fact, the app is not even connected to the internet (except for checking for updates). All your Styles are stored offline, and if you export them, they are stripped of any personal settings (such as Lat/Long). We also don't like Megacorps collecting telemetry / data, so we don't. In fact we don't even know how many people download this app.
Nothing is easier! Launch ScreenStyler and under Create Style, press a Block (for example, Windows).
Press the green button to apply the style.
Press the save icon.
Press the "download" icon...
At the moment, we'd like to invite you to share it on our Discord. We working on a more thorough gallery for Styles.
There are quite a few icon packs available. You can search on google for "icon pack" to get some on either DeviantArt or Google. ScreenStyler accepts PNG icons.
It means we're still working on it, so it's not a "Finished" project. But then again, is something ever finished?
We have one or two Gaudi quotes, the last name of Tyler and of course, 10 BTC hidden inside this project.
Yes, we are looking for developers to help us maintain it, but also for designers and stylers to help create compatible Styles.
Volunteer to run our Discord server!
Although initially it had them, after our Private BETA test we realized that we can't provide a consistent experience for Visual Styles, and modification of Windows files poses a security liability. We will continue to explore how we can include Visual Styles in ScreenStyler in the future.
Yes! We are currently developing a module for Spotify, Discord and Visual Studio Code. It's gonna be awesome!
Currently you can't backup all your styles at once. We suggest to individually export your Styles by using the "Download" icon.
ScreenStyler is more of a "big-picture" app where you use already pre-made templates and widgets. We are exploring to build a Widget maker, but for now you cannot. If you have a cool idea for one, though, let us know on our Discord and we might build it / include it in the app.
At the moment we only have a font demo (With Comic Sans even, wow!). Soon it will be possible to use custom fonts across all Widgets.
Currently ScreenStyler only supports English, we are working hard to bring new languages into the app.
